«La enseñanza cristiana es uno de los motivos del machismo»

La filósofa Michéle Le Doeuf analiza la relación de la religión y la opresión a la mujer a partir de Simone de Beauvoir

Simone de Beauvoir fue tan audaz en su vida como en su obra. Su libro 'El Segundo Sexo' marcó un antes y un después en la lucha por la igualdad de sexos y permitió llevar a cabo las reivindicaciones de las mujeres del París de mediados del siglo pasado. Son reivindicaciones que en la actualidad siguen estando muy vigentes. Su compatriota Michéle Le Doeuf es una gran estudiosa de la vida y obra de Beauvoir, y ayer ofreció una conferencia en la que analizó la influencia de la educación religiosa que recibió Beauvoir en su pensamiento. «La familia de Simone practicaba un catolicismo que hoy se podría calificar de integrismo. Recibió una educación que le llevó a automartirizarse. Estos primeros años influyeron en el resto de su vida», señaló.

Le Doeuf, que también es filósofa y miembro del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas de Francia, aseguró que «leyendo la obra de Simone te encuentras un proyecto político que sirve en la actualidad para toda Europa». Un proyecto que, según argumentó durante su charla, se basa en que los jóvenes y las mujeres tienen que cambiar su relación con la religión. Y se ha de modificar la educación cristiana, porque tiene que reconocer el derecho al aborto y a la igualdad de sexos para que la próxima generación sea más feliz».

Según Le Doeuf, «uno de los motivos principales del machismo actual es la enseñanza cristiana. Pero hay teólogos, como Isabelle Graesslé, que mantienen que el verdadero cristianismo no tiene ninguna razón para oponerse al aborto o a la homosexualidad. Filósofos, científicos, curas y legisladores han puesto su pensamiento al servicio del hombre para dominar a la mujer», sentenció.

La charla, organizada por la Tertulia Feminista Les Comadres, fue presentada por la consejera de Estado y filósofa asturiana Amelia Valcárcel y congregó a decenas de mujeres- y algún hombre- en el Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto.

The philosopher Michele Le Doeuf analyzes the connection between religion and woman’s oppression, starting from Simone de Beauvoir’s works.

Simone de Beauvoir has been brave in her life as well as in her works. Her book “The Second Sex” is a milestone in the struggle for gender equality and made it possible to the women living in the mid 19th century Paris, to carry out their claims. A sort of claims that, nowadays, are still topical. Besides being Beauvoir’s fellow countrywoman, Michéle Le Doeuf is a great specialist of her works and life and, yesterday, gave a lecture in which she analyzed the influence of the religious education on Beauvoir’s way of thinking. “Beauvoir’s family practiced a sort Catholicism that, today, would be considered fundamentalism. The education she received in her childhood, leaded Simone de Beauvoir to martyr herself. Those early years strongly influenced the rest of her life”

Philosopher and member of French National Council for Scientific Research, Le Doeuf assured that “reading Simone’s works you can find a political project that could be currently used all over Europe” “A project that” –as Le Doeuf argued in her speech- “is based both on a completely different attitude of women and young people towards the religion and on a drastic change of Christian education. In particular, the gender equality and the right to the abortion have to be recognized in order to guarantee a happier future for the next generations”

According to Le Doeuf: “the Christian Education is one of the main reasons of the current male chauvinism. And although there are theologians, like Isabelle Graesslé, that maintain the real Christianity has no cause to be against abortion or homosexuality; as a general rule, philosophers, scientists, priests and political leaders have always put their faculties at men’s service in order to dominate women”

The lecture, organized by Les Comadres Feminist Gathering in the Antiguo Instituto Cultural Centre of Gijon (Spain) and presented by the adviser and philosopher Amelia Valcarcel, was witnessed by scores of women…and a few men.
